Indigenous Modular Bridge System by BRO (E)
"In this episode of Science for a Self-Reliant India, we continue our travels in the picturesque northeastern state of Sikkim with the Border Roads Organization (BRO), which is part of the Ministry of Defence and the Indian Army. In this very exclusive episode, we travel with the BRO through high mountain passes and dense forests of Sikkim amidst heavy snow to a newly constructed Modular bridge at 11000 feet – the first indigenous Modular bridge to be made in India – this is a game-changer when it comes to India’s Self Reliance in Bridge construction. BRO has also built vertical approach roads of over 30 meters using Reinforced EarthWorks towards the Teesta River valley to improve road connectivity. BRO is also making a series of bridges close to the Teesta’s bank to build an alternative road towards Munshithang and to the border areas. Many of these are also initiatives and are part of the larger Bharatmala Pariyojana which is working to improve infrastructure and connectivity in the North East of India with an emphasis on the use of technology and scientific planning."
