About Us

Science and Technology (S&T) are integral to national progress and development, and it is crucial that the benefits reach out to all segments of society through popular communication media. Recognizing this, India leveraged its extensive internet user base, with a significant portion of the population spending considerable time on social media platforms for information consumption. The National Council of Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) Division, Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, through Vigyan Prasar, erstwhile an autonomous organization under DST, started Science Channel January 2019-March 2023 in project mode. The project led to the creation of two key platforms for science communication: (i) DD Science, a dedicated one-hour slot on Doordarshan National and (ii) India Science, a 24x7 OTT platform aimed at disseminating science and technology knowledge, with a focus on Indian perspectives, ethos, and cultural context. This project concluded in March 2023.

India Science www.indiascience.dst.gov.in emerged as a bilingual science channel in Hindi and English, accessible on various devices with internet connectivity such as laptops, desktops, smartphones (Android/iOS), and smart TVs. Over the span of four years, India Science produced more than 4000 science videos and films tailored for school-goers, college students, teachers, researchers, science communicators, and enthusiasts of science. The India Science OTT platform was a successful endeavour in science communication, earning appreciation from Indian viewers. The platform garnered over 500,000 subscribers and reached an audience exceeding 200 million.

The current repository at www.indiascience.dst.gov.in hosts more than 4000 videos originally developed for the OTT platform. This unique collection covers a wide spectrum of science and technology topics, including engineering, medicine, natural sciences, environment, wildlife, children's curiosity, science in society, agriculture, innovation, and scientific heritage. The content employs interactive and modern formats such as documentaries, discussions, experimental shows, quizzes, game shows, science fiction, docudramas, and biographies.
